The Indian freedom struggle was a crucial and perhaps one of the most important events in the history of India. It was during the Indian freedom struggle when the concept of Swaraj or Self rule developed. The Indian Independence Movement was started in 1857, The Mutiny, and culminated in India's independence from British Raj in 1947. On midnight of 14th August 1947, India became an independent country, and still is to this day. On 26th January 1950, India adopted their constitution. The Indian constitution is the longest constitution in the world. ‘Free India’ was a dream of all Indians under the British rule. Everyone during that rule fought in some way or the other with a common aim of ending British and other colonial authorities in India. Every Indian respects the suffering our ancestors went through to ensure our freedom today - yet we witness the heritage sites related to Indian Freedom Struggle being contaminated or disrespected. This has to stop; our heritage sites are an important indication of our freedom fighters' sufferings and struggles, let's preserve them!
