Support specific programs to grow the pool of women leaders in India

Mckinsey and Company report (2012) notes that in India; while 42% of college graduates are women, only 29% of the entry level positions and 9% of mid-to senior level positions are held by them. And this goes down to less than 1% as CEOs and 5% as Board Members.

The Government on India has mandated that every Board must have at least 1 woman board member however, 54% of the Bombay Stock Exchange 100 have no women Board directors (Catalyst, Statistical Overview of Women in the workforce, 2016).

The Government of India should invest resources to develop specific programs to enlarge the pool of women leaders who could occupy Board and other executive positions.
