Integrate UN's Sustainable Development Goals with the CSR Scheduled activities in India

Being a UN Signatory as India has agreed to implement and strive to achieve the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its 169 associated targets till 2030. However considering the challenges India is facing and also acknowledging the resource limitation for development, the CSR investments through Private Sector should be channelised towards SDGs.

For this, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, GoI and its institution Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) should integrate the SDGs and its associated targets into Schedule VII of Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 that governs CSR implementation in the country.

A proposal and the white paper for the same is also being submitted to the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, MoCA.

Though the current list of prescribed activities also have lot of overlaps with the SDGs, however it is very broad and subject to interpretation, whereas SDGs and its associated targets are very specific and would help India Inc. to broaden its development horizon and contribute directly towards the national and global development agenda.
