Dear Parents, well-wishers and friends

As a Students Body pursuing higher education in Nagaland we write this appeal in the common interests of all students and unemployed youth for your kind supports and endorsements to ensure everyone has good quality internet access in the state and region.

Having deprived of many e-learning resources and opportunities provided by MHRD/UGC and various Higher Education Institutions amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown conditions, the Students Council of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR, Nagaland) on behalf of thousands of students and unemployed youth in the state of Nagaland and also in the northeastern region of India earnestly appeal the Ministry of Communication, Electronics and Information & Technology, Govt of India, Government of Nagaland State and the Directorate, Communication and Information Technology to ensure regular and quality internet connection for continuing education during and after Covid-19 pandemic under the national flagship program, Digital India.

A recent survey carried out by the Students Council, NEISSR (July, 2020) in Nagaland state reveals that only 29% of respondents having regular quality internet access out of a total of 615 respondents spread across 11 districts. 91% respondents were in the age group 18-25 years and 75% of them were currently Under-graduate and Post-graduate students, another 18% were educated unemployed youth in the state. Data showed only one-third of the population who most needed regular internet connectivity for continuing their higher education and also seek job opportunities remain deprived despite having a dedicated department for providing internet services in the state under the Digital India Mission.Covid-19 Pandemic is changing life beyond recovery for the present children and young generations. Present generation needs to be equipped with new knowledge and skills to live with and prepare for post-Covid-19 future through the only virtual media.

This has made access to internet essential and information and technology part of basic infrastructure and facilities for continuing education in higher education institutions. Hence, access to equal and quality access to internet services throughout the state and the region has become a matter of rights and entitlements of students and youth in the present times and for future.

Kindly, Sign this petition so that no student remains deprived of online education throughout the country.
