I am an alum from LU and I remember the "bean counting" for the right for many programs to stay alive. Unfortunately, film, drama, music and many other non-STEM based programs were on the chopping block already. I understand that LU is one of the universities with the most sessional staff, which means Covid really did a number on the finances of the school, but students from Northern Ontario can't just go to Toronto to study film... it's a 20 hour travel time for some. Laurentian in the gateway university for the North and it needs to be viewed with way more value then it does.

I’m signing this petition because I work in film production, education is necessary and mandatory and the arts are being plundered.

I believe that Laurentian University is making a legal error and an unethical decision to end the required courses for the Film Students ' degree requirements this yea.

This is outrageous!!! And why the Arts? More than ever now, we are recognizing the vital role of the arts in our lives and culture. Not to mention the moral and legal aspects of cancelling a contract. Shame!

This is the most insanely inappropriate time to remove this program. We need local film workers. You are driving students out of our city and forcing those who cannot afford to move to give up on the careers they have been working towards. It feels like this city's goal is to destroy its own future by crushing any possibility for our youths to thrive. We are not just a small mining town anymore. Let's start fueling other industries.

There is no equivalent or substitute for Thorneloe programming, so to suggest that as a viable option for these students is despicable. These students deserve the education they paid for and were promised.

Students should be allowed to complete their degrees as entitled by the contract they have and paid for with Laurentian University. Closing MPA, particularly in this fashion, is disgraceful.

Shame on Laurentian for conducting itself in this manner yet again.
