The NSW Wedding Collective started this petition to Minister Rob Stokes

Please join us to let State Government know we urgently need them to make changes to State legislation in order that the Wedding Industry is sustainable.

First the bush fires. Then COVID-19.  It's been a tough 12 months for many regional businesses involved in the wedding industry.

Did you know that regional weddings contribute hundreds of millions annually to the NSW economy?  Did you also know that most regional venues only have temporary multi-year permits which makes it hard to plan and invest for the long term?

Yet collectively we represent much direct and indirect investment and we are economic multiplier of activity into our local / regional areas.

Whilst most NSW Councils are incredibly supportive of the wedding industry, they are hamstrung by restrictive planning legislation meaning that in many instances they can only work within restrictive planning laws. They also want change but legislation needs to be updated first.

There is a small but vocal group within Government who are lobbying for the changes needed. However, as an industry we can support this further and work collaboratively by letting Government know we care.

We support the efforts by DSSS (part of Destination NSW) to raise this issue with Rob Stokes, the NSW Planning Minister.

Action steps required to help:
1. Please read and consider supporting this cause too. Signing this petition today will be a big help for the future success of our industry and livelihoods.  Regional economies rely on the wedding industry being functional - it creates jobs, businesses and is an important part of local economies.  State Planning laws need to be updated.  Sign the Change.org petition here - right now!

2. Please contact your local member to raise this issue, so that he/she can also make representations to the Planning Minister.

3. Post this on social media and forward this to anyone who has an interest in the NSW Weddings industry and get them to do the same.

4. We’d be most interested to know if you think there are any other issues -- concerning regional wedding industry sector -- that may be improved, if we were to come together, to lobby for change?  We see our venue industry as being fragmented and lacking clout.  Mostly because we are rural/regional SME operators.  Please write back with your comments.

Thanks for your support.
