PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION ASKING THE IRISH GOVERNMENT TO RETIRE THE AREA OF BALLYCONNEELY/ROUNDSTONE, CONNEMARA, (PL930), FROM THE LICENSING COMPETITION TO ENSURE THAT OUR ENVIRONMENT WILL NEVER BE AT RISK AGAIN.

Ballyconneely/Roundstone Bog area, PL930, in Connemara in the west of Ireland is one of the most beautiful regions in Europe.  We have stunningly beautiful landscapes of shore and coast line, bogs, hills and meadows. The bogs here are habitats for plants, animals and birds and are protected under Irish and EU law and they also act as carbon sinks which is vital in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in terms of climate action.  Just recently the local and on-line community amassed over 11,000 signatures via petition, letters of objection, emails and 'phone calls to prevent a mining company from prospecting here. Their licence was revoked due to public action.  However, even though one licence has been revoked another company can come along and make their application for a licence and we are back to square one.  Prospecting is expected to lead to mining and this community is concerned about environmental destruction to the bogs and to our health and our cattle and horses' health and to the air and water.  Due to the scenic beauty of Connemara many of us rely for our livelihoods on tourism and if prospecting and mining were to go ahead in the future our livelihoods would be jeopardised.  PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION ASKING THE IRISH GOVERNMENT TO RETIRE THIS LICENSING AREA - PL930 - FROM THE LICENSING COMPETITION TO ENSURE THAT OUR ENVIRONMENT WILL NEVER BE AT RISK AGAIN
