Restrict foreign aid to a country that sentanced a gay couple to public flogging.

Two men have been the the first people to be convicted of homosexuality in Indonesia. They were prosecuted under Aceh's strict sharia code.

The men will be caned during a public ceremony on May 23 in the city of Banda Aceh, just before the beginning of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

Their punishment will be delivered by a hooded government official known as "algojo" — literally, the executioner.

Further, blasphemy charges have been laid against a non muslim governor in Jakata.

The increasing intolerance towards non muslims and members of the LGBTIQ community within Indonesia is in direct violation of not only human rights but of democratic processes.

The Australian Government will provide an estimated $356.9 million in total ODA to Indonesia in 2017-18, including an estimated $296.0 million in bilateral funding managed by DFAT.

This petition is to suggest the cutting of this foreign aid as a direct result of the Indonesian governments inabilty to protect the rights and freedoms of its citizens.

As Indonesia is a major Australian trading partner, we as a country are inadvertantly supporting a government which is becoming ever more secular and extreme in their operations.  Environments such as these promote religious extremism, and assist those intending to harm Australian intrests.

It is therefore suggested we cut foreign aid to Indonesia in order to send a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated within Australia, and that we respect the rights and religious freedom of all peoples.
