Elise Van Schaik started this petition to Marc Garneau (Minister of Transport) and

The Minister of Transportation needs to take a strong position with the airline industry to ensure that seating restrictions stay in place and that passenger rights to health and safety are protected.

The Federal Government and the airline industry need to understand that the airline's attempts at revenue mitigation does not mean that they can put passengers at risk. In all other aspects of our lives during this pandemic we are social distancing and many other sectors of our society have and are experiencing economic losses due to these restrictions.

The airline industry cannot be given a reckless and unaccountable pass by our politicians.

It is time for the Minister of Transportation to stop kowtowing to the airline industry.  Not only has there been no reimbursements to Canadians for cancelled trips due to CV19 (many of whom are never able to take these vacations again) while our European counterparts have stepped up to the plate, but now we are expected to sit elbow to elbow on our flights to work (or other) and risk our health because airlines are in an economic crunch.  Well, so it the rest of the country.   Other sectors are not expected to put their customers at risk so why is the airline industry being allowed to do so?

Is the Minister of Transportation actually going to standby and support the airline industry while they put passengers at risk for illness?  Why the disregard for public safety? Where is the accountability in government?

There is no wiggle room when it comes to passenger health and safety. Unless the airline is ready to issue gowns, N95 masks, gloves and head coverings no one will be safe.

Maintain seat distancing until it is safe to do so otherwise!  Common sense needs to prevail.
