PETITION TO RENAME THE INDEPENDENCE STADIUM BIRI STADIUM

We the undersigned, as concerned Gambians and admirers of Momodou Njie (Biri), humbly request that the Independence Stadium in Bakau be renamed Biri Stadium to reflect his immense contribution to and sacrifice for Gambian football in particular and sports in general.

As one of the greatest sportsmen to have ever come out of Gambia, Biri’s service to the Gambian nation in terms of his contribution to Gambian football is legendary and it is our conviction that the least the Gambian nation can do is to honour him whilst he is alive. As such, we are convinced that one of the best ways to do this is to rename the Independence Stadium after him. Renaming the stadium after him will show the Gambian nation’s appreciation of his contributions to Gambia and encourage others to emulate him.
