Hannah Sepecan started this petition to Minister of Health, Steve Miles MP

Every pregnancy starts at the beginning of first trimester, so why does the Redland hospital only have maternity care after 16 weeks of pregnancy?

1st Trimester is the most dangerous time in a pregnancy, with most losses occuring before 12 weeks.

So why do we not have 24 hour Early Pregnancy Clinic in the Redland Hospital?

Unfortunately there are complications that can occur in the early stages of pregnancy, which can be potentially life threatening, including Ectopic pregnancy, Molar Pregnancy and complications of miscarriage.

They need to addressed and treated by doctors who specialise in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

My name is Hannah Sepecan and I personally have experienced the treatment you receive as an early pregnancy patient in the Redland Hospital.

Due to lack of funding, all early pregnancy cases are handled in the emergency department.  As a result I have waited hours and hours each visit which is extremely stressful in an already stressful situation. The staff in ED are overworked and do not specialise in the area of early pregnancy.

In 2016, I suffered an ectopic pregnancy, which you can read about in my letter I wrote to the hospital when you click the link  (caution content my be confronting to some viewers) Redlands Hospital Letter

An ectopic pregnancy is a life threatening condition, in which the baby develops in another place other than your uterus. If the baby grows too big it can cause rupture (in my case it was in my left Fallopian tube). If not treated promptly you can die as a result. This means women need to be constantly monitored with blood tests and ultrasound to make sure this does not occur.

In my case as you will have read in my letter, I started to rupture after weeks of trying get help and had I not yet again presented to the Redland Emergency Department, my situation could have turned out far worse.

Since then, I have suffered from another miscarriage and am currently pregnant again. Once you have had an ectopic, you are at higher risk for another one which means I constantly have to sit in the Redland Emergency Department for blood tests and early ultrasounds in order to make sure the pregnancy is not in my other tube.

I am sure there are many women in the Redlands City like myself, who have or are suffering with care as a result of there being no Early Pregnancy Clinic at the Redland Hospital.

I am calling on the people of Redland City or those who frequent the Redland hospital for medical treatment to sign my petition for funding for a walk in Early Pregnancy Clinic, where women can get appropriate treatment from doctors who are knowledgeable specialise in this field.
