Keep, Protect & Enhance children's heart surgery at Clark Clinic, RBHSC.

We, the undersigned support The Children's Heartbeat Trust in their aim to protect children's heart surgery in Northern Ireland. Removing children's heart surgery from Belfast means that all very ill babies and children with heart disease, and their families will be forced to travel hundreds of miles for specialist treatment as well as surgery. The Safe and Sustainable review for N.I. has stated that the children's heart surgery service provided is SAFE but not sustaintable. Instead of stopping a safe service that provides care and treatment for over 120 families annually in Northern Ireland, we believe that sustainability can be achieved by creating an all Ireland surgical network in partnership with Our Lady's Hospital in Dublin. The practical, financial and emotional consequences of stopping surgery in Belfast for our heart children, families and indeed future parents and families affected by congenital heart disease are extremely detrimental and quite simply unacceptable.
