Repeal IEMRS and EITT Regulations
This petition had 1,510 supporters
IEMRS (Integrated Electronic Monitoring and Reporting System) and EITT (Enabling Innovative Trawl Technologies) Regulations have been rushed through Parliament faster than any other I know. The consultation period was very poor and did not include the commercial fishers who will be widely affected by the implementations. The estimated cost is not clear, but it is set to be several thousand to install and maintain on each vessel, most of which are owned and operated by small businesses. This will affect mostly young families and have a negative impact on the wider community. The cost of buying fish wise rise. The huge cost will more than likely see them out of business. Jobs Lost! Families suffering! MPI calls this 'rationalisation'. There is a huge concern that the time-consuming tasks of data logging, will have an adverse impact on the health and safety of the crew and vessel. It is an invasion of privacy, they will take our Intellectual Property, our marks, trade secrets, our Taonga handed down to us from generation to generation.
We will be surveilled 24/7 while on the water, this is more than what is being proposed for known violent criminals and gangs!
Why us? Who will be next?
