Axe the Tax Again

“I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.” - Winston S. Churchill
The government cannot continue to look for revenue shortfalls in the pockets and savings accounts of the citizenry. Already reeling from depressed incomes, layoffs and reduced cash flow, many are barely holding on in the hope that a better day will dawn. To unleash another tax at this time will be draconian and abusive.
The reasons behind our declining incomes have everything to do with this nation's almost singular reliance on the oil and gas industries and our failure to diversify into other opportunities of trade. The people would be more likely to tighten belts and bite down on austerity measures if there were some glimmer of hope that the government of the day was slashing extraneous expenditure, shutting down unessential boards, selling off non essential state enterprises and reducing its operating debt.
We cannot continue to pretend that sixty plus billion dollar budgets are reasonable while looking to the people to pick up the slack.
This petition calls on the Minister of Finance and the government of which he is a part to hold off on the implementation of any new taxation and instead calls on government to reduce the national operating costs and to begin the process of identifying and pursuing alternative ways of funding the economy.
