Lord Rana, Hon. Consul for India to Northern Ireland has been informed that the Honorary Consulate Office of India in Northern Ireland is to be terminated.

Over the past number of years, the Honorary Consulate in Northern Ireland has helped serve India, in many directions:-

• In developing Trade between India and this part of the UK, facilitating and encouraging educational, tourism and cultural links
• Providing consular services for Indian Nationals living in Northern Ireland ie. Powers of Attorney, Attestations
• Helping Tourists with advice on travelling to India ie. Indian Visa
• Offering guidance and support to Northern Ireland Companies/Business men and women who want help and advice on setting up business in India. This also applies for Indian Companies who want to set up trade in this part of the United Kingdom

The Consulate Office is located in the centre of Belfast and is only 2 minutes from the main railway and bus station providing easy access to all and with car parking facilities close by.

If the Consulate Office in Northern Ireland was terminated this would mean the citizens of Northern Ireland will be forced to spend time and money flying to London, Edinburgh, Birmingham (approx. 1.5hr flight) to solve their consular matters which were easily dealt with in the Northern Ireland Office for the past number of years.

Closing down the Indian Consulate Office in Northern Ireland will have devastating impact on all citizens in Northern Ireland and would have a negative impact on India’s reputation in this part of the UK.
