To the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island,

In Prince Edward Island, our government wishes to close down 5 schools, most of which are in rural communities: St.Louis, Bloomfield, Georgetown Elementary, St. Jean Elementary, and Belfast Consolidated Schools.

These 5 schools are the centerpieces of our communities and without them, our communities will suffer greatly. We should look at better ways of saving money, such as reversing the funding going to Mill River Resort as opposed to saving money on the backs of children.

It would only cost $250,000 (0.1% of the Education Budget) to operate St.Louis and Bloomfield Elementary, but yet it would cost $7 million for the Government to subsidize Mill River Resort, $23 million for a non-beneficial government contract with Bell Aliant, and $65 million for an overpass in Cornwall.

We the people DEMAND that our government looks at alternative methods of saving money without compromising rural communities and the education of our children, and that they leave our schools alone.
