I see mindfulness as a religious practice that parents should be informed about and given the opportunity to decide if they want their children to participate or not.

There is absolutely NO difference between students saying the Lord's Prayer at the beginning of their school day as well as singing the National Anthem or doing this!!! As I recall, there were less crimes committed on school property when the Lord's Prayer started the day!!!!!

I’m signing this petition because we are trying to prevent mindfulness from being taught in our classrooms because it’s of a religious nature and has not been approved by the school board.

I'm signing because this is an Eastern religious practice and if we are not allowed to pray the Lord's Prayer in public schools, why are we allowing THIS?

Mindfulness Programs are a form of Buddhist meditation, and forced participation infringes on the legal rights of children and parents. Participation in Mindfulness programs would contravene the religious beliefs of many families and should not be forced. Such a program should not be forced on children, nor should it go on without the informed consent of the parents. Also, I know a child who was given "guided meditation" supposedly to help him. The result was disturbed sleep and increased anxiety.

I am appalled that leadership in public education in both Canada and the U.S. could be so short sited and uninformed as to impose Mindfulness Meditation on vulnerable children. In addition to the already noted valid objections to Mindfulness in the classroom, consider this: Children, conditioned by repetition to instantly go into hypnotic trance at the sound of a chime, without direct parental supervision while put into trance, are extremely vulnerable to unauthorized suggestions by the trance guide (teacher). A teacher with pedophile tendencies, unsupervised in the classroom, might be tempted to take advantage of the opportunity to add hypnotic deepeners, dangerous scripts and post hypnotic commands to abuse helpless kids. Or, imagine a teacher imposing his/her personal politics and religious concepts, subconsciously indoctrinating children through hypnotic suggestions? Easy access to hypnotize our children without parental supervision is DANGEROUS!

I'm signing this because meditation, Mindfulness and non- judgemental thinking are tenets of the Buddhist faith and do not belong in a secular public school. We are also fighting from having Mindup being taught as a SEL program in our district. Please keep us informed.

I don't want my child participating in meditation at school . We have our own spirituality and it does not come from bhuddism .
