I’m a single mum of two kids who has worked hard to become a Financial Adviser in a male dominated industry. I absolutely always do right by my clients and love my job. I get great satisfaction when I can help my older clients navigated their super and Centrelink.

As the sole breadwinner in my family, I rely on my job to pay the bills and put food on the table. I don’t have a partner who can help with the bills if my income suddenly stops.

The FASEA exam has been in the back of my mind since it was announced. But a part of me felt that any ethical adviser shouldn’t have anything to worry about and should be able to pass with flying colours. So when I attempted the practice exam and got a score of 9 out of 24 and realised the questions were designed to trick and confuse the student, I entered into panic mode. I realised that if I don’t pass this exam by the end of next year, I will lose the career I’ve worked so hard for and will potentially not have a job to pay my family’s bills.

FASEA and the powers that be have forgotten there a real peoples whose livelihoods hang in the balance. I would like to propose;

- an extension to the exam deadline

- a review of the exam itself. An honest and qualified adviser should be able to pass it on the first attempt. The questions should not be designed to confuse.

- existing advisers who don’t pass by the deadline cease practicing until they pass. They should not be treated as new entrants.
