Alex Michaelides started this petition to Minister of Education

Due to the growing population in Auckland, places for out of Zone Students in Auckland, are reducing significantly.

The only number that is not reducing in State schools, are International students. This means that less NZ children are getting their choice of education.

My son James has just finished intermediate at Clevedon Primary a Decile 9 School. For the past 10 years at least, all Clevedon Kids who are going to State Colleges after finishing at Clevedon Primary, have been accepted into Howick College, as Clevedon does not have a Zoned school. The reason for this is that Clevedon Primary is part of a pathway,  whereby ECC, Schools and Colleges within your area, work together, to have a set pathway for children, everyone  on the same page. For some reason without consultation this changed at the end of last school year.

Howick College was directed by the Ministry of Education to cut their role by 50. Which School lost out ?Clevedon Primary. Howick still have an overseas Student enrolment, therefore domestic numbers we’re reduced not overseas Student enrolment.

We were then advised by the Ministry, that Papakura High would take your child.

Children from Clevedon have never gone to Papakura High for 3 reasons !

1) Clevedon Decile 9 Papakura High Decile 1b

2) There is no bus service from Clevedon and never will be to Papakura High

3) Papakura High in the words of the Ministry, is a college where students are managed not educated ( due to the type of Student that goes there)  There are drugs Violence and alcohol problems at this college.

I feel that every Kiwi child has the right to a good education.

My son James is a well balanced young man that achieves. A natural sportsman, a good learner, and a potential leader.

This petition is to highlight and hopefully change the enrolment process at state Colleges, so that domestic students get preference over International students, thereby educating Kiwi’s 1st
