To date, there is not one mandated learning expectation in the Ontario curriculum about the 400-year presence of people of African descent in Canada. During our #BlackedOutHistory campaign, we blacked out all but the Black history from a 255-page history textbook to illustrate how Black history is treated. Only mentions on 13 pages remained. We sent a letter to the Minister of Education reviving the demand for the integration of mandated learning expectations in the Ontario Elementary and High School Social Studies, History, and Geography curricula. They have stated that the optional topics provided is adequate. They are not.

The teaching of Black  History  must  become a mandatory component of Ontario's K to 12 overall  curriculum expectations. The time for change is now.  Please sign  OBHS' s petition to help make this goal a reality
