T Canfield started this petition to Worksafe Jill Hennessey and

ASBESTOS HEALTH RISK

The old 3aw site at 41-49 Bank St South Melbourne Victoria remains contaminated with disturbed friable asbestos. Confirmed on soil, building rubble and materials sampled via hygienist reports I commissioned. This is both a public nuisance and health risk to all that work and reside in this area.  Following demolition works that commenced May 30th 2018.

Despite reporting the asbestos contamination to Worksafe, the City of Port Phillip Council and EPA. Consistently since July 2018.

They have failed to act to enforce full immediate remediation works by the developers Virgate Property Group. Leaving us the public in South Melbourne community exposed and residing near an asbestos contaminated site in the inner city Domain Precinct.

I am lobbying for this public nuisance to be rectified immediately with full remediation works by the developer. This is an unacceptable standard for an overseas developer to think they can cut corners which exposed us to ASBESTOS!

The South Melbourne community and public deserves to reside, work and commute safely without exposure to asbestos fibres from the illegal demolition, dumping and remaining contaminated site. Hundreds potentially thousands have been exposed which have come into proximity to the old 3aw site at 41-49 Bank St.

Legislation is required to be addressed and changed.

For an area of a 100m radius along with adjoining neighbors on all sides to be notified of an asbestos demolition.

Full public display of asbestos demolition signage.

Full hygenist testing of a site which includes sampling of soil and building rubble and materials from the entire site in order to provide a clearance certificate. This must be the minimum standard. Not simply a visual inspection.

Asbestos exposure causes significant harm and health concerns. Our South Melbourne community shall not accept this. Australians shouldn't accept this.
