Stop discrimination against childless and child free women - Sex Discrimination Act (1984)

This is a petition to Federal Minister for Women requesting that you propose changes to the wording in the Australian Federal Sex Discrimination Act (1984) [Section 7 Items 1 & 2] to expand the scope discrimination laws to cover childless and child free women as well as potentially pregnant or pregnant women.

The current wording in the legislation reads, "aggrieved woman’s pregnancy or potential pregnancy" which could potentially be interpreted to mean that it is OK to discriminate against women who do not have children or the capacity for pregnancy because there is no provision for this population group. Types of discrimination toward childless and child free women includes financial support & financial services industry discriminating with regard to loans, in other areas, workplace bullying and social exclusion.
Propose to change the legislation wording to something similar to "reproductive status" which includes women without children utilising discrimination laws to prevent common discrimination which occurs toward them as a matter of course by men, the general bureaucratic infrastructure and also by other women in social situations, club environments, workplaces and, of course, in politics.
Childless & Child Free women make up a smaller proportion of the population and are therefore a minority however they appear to be one of the subgroups which are left out of anti-discrimination legislation.
