Australian Service Medal for PNG service post 1975

Australian Defence Force members who served in Papua New Guinea between 1945- 1975 were once awarded the 'Australian Service Medal 1945-1975' for recognition of service in non-warlike operations. After their independence in 1975, this recognition ceased and the medal is no longer awarded to eligible military personnel despite the same service conditions.
We urge the Minister to recognise post 1975 service and reinstate the 'ASM clasp PNG' immediately. This will not affect any entitlements, and is only for medallic recognition for those members who served in the region.
The Honours and Awards tribunal wrongly rejected this submission in 2010. We, the Veteran community, request it be reviewed.
