The Wyndham Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) is committed to building new bridges in alternative locations, and then scrapping the existing Cherry St and Old Geelong Rd level crossings. Werribee St Bridge will retain its existing functionality, and the train line rise over it. Each LXRP crossing may cost $120mil given a $6 bil budget for 50 crossings (2017), so Wyndham's 3 crossing alterations are worth an estimated $360 mil.

I am of the opinion that it is wasteful in the extreme to demolish two key intersections that have served the community well for 60 years. It being well known that Wyndham's population has grown from 20,000 in 1959 to 270,000 in 2019 since these crossing were built, and traffic congestion is a top community concern. The majority of Wyndham's population live north of the Geelong train line, and many cross the train line daily to access the Princess Fwy for work.

I am a private individual who can see considerable uncertainty about these projects delivering anything beyond a 15% traffic capacity improvement resulting from a bypass of train crossing red traffic signals. Convoluted traffic routes may reduce this further. We could be doubling (100% or 115% improvement) our traffic capacity with these 2 projects. There are currently 6 RR crossings in 9.5km from Werribee St bridge (Wer) to Palmers Rd Bridge (Williams Landing), and we could have 8 for less spend (no demolition of 2 crossings).

Werribee CBD Landowners Group Inc do not support the closing of Cherry Street level crossing under the proposed railway crossing plan. We believe that this will be detrimental to motorists accessing the CBD. To our disappointment, Wyndham City Council have no public position on the proposed removal of three Wyndham crossings.

Wyndham Cycling.com (300 road cyclists) do not approve of the pedestrian/cycleway underpass (Cherry St) and overpass (Old Geelong Rd) LXRP propositions. The 'Victorian Cycling Strategy 2018-28' states under Goals and Strategic Approaches: 'Roads and related infrastructure should separate pedestrians, bicycles and motor vehicles. Cycling infrastructure such as cycleways and cycle paths should minimise potential points of conflict between modes of transport'. LXRP will mix pedestrians and cyclists in both their Cherry St underpass and Old Geelong Rd overpass, with the latter more focussed on delivering commuters to Hoppers Crossing Station than a dedicated cycleway. The 2 road bridges lack pedestrian and cycle lanes in public consultation doco.

If you think 'building 2 new bridges and keeping the existing 2 crossings' would render a superior traffic outcome than 'building 2 new bridges for $240 mil and demolishing the existing crossings' then vote for this petition. The design stage is finalised by 30'12'19, and the community consultation period closed 27'7'19.
