Hudson Park Concept Plans

Strathfield Council recently closed Hudson Park Golf Course and plans to turn it into passive recreational space. This redevelopment is occurring without any community consultation.

Whilst we agree that there are significant benefits to the community in the redevelopment that is proposed, our view is that even greater community benefit could be delivered if a small amount of the space, in the order of 10%, is set aside for organised sport.

Organised sport has been, and will continue to be, a way to bring the community together. Our country has many proud achievements whose roots lie in organised community sport. The area is currently growing by 2,000 residents per year and this redevelopment provides a unique opportunity to add new sporting facilities to support our growing community.

We, the undersigned, call on the council to consult with local groups to assess what facilities are most needed to support organised sport, now and into the future. We call on the council to adjust the proposed redevelopment so that it can deliver greater community benefit through the allocation of a small amount to space to organised sport.

We, the undersigned call on the Minister for Sport to contact the local Council and impress upon them the benefits to the whole community of having this vital infrastructure delivered.
