Multiculturalism is a core value that defines what it means to be Australian in the 21st century. We are a nation that values a fair go for all, yet it seems as though Australia has a long way to go to improve fairness and equality for all Australians. There is still racism and discrimination in the workplace, a lack humanitarian support for asylum seekers, limited access and equity to health and community services, and a lack of cultural competency amongst service providers in Australia.
A Multicultural Act would underpin and legislate the necessary infrastructure and services that support immigrants in Australia. It is an opportunity for the next Australian Government to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to Australian society, social cohesion and quality of life now and into the future. It will help abolish racism and lead to high quality of life for all citizens.

Letter to
Minister for Immigration, Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship
Multiculturalism is a core value that defines what it means to be Australian in the 21st century.

We are a nation that values a fair go for all, yet it seems as though Australia has a long way to go to improve fairness and equality for all Australians.

There is still racism and discrimination in the workplace, a lack humanitarian support for asylum seekers, limited access and equity to health and community services, and a lack of cultural competency amongst service providers in Australia.

I support the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) calls for a Multicultural Act.

A Multicultural Act would underpin and legislate the necessary infrastructure and services that support immigrants in Australia.

This is an opportunity for the next Australian Government to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to Australian society, social cohesion and quality of life now and into the future. It will help abolish racism and lead to high quality of life for all citizens.

I support FECCA and its aim to promote fairness and responsiveness in the delivery and design of Government policies and programs. I ask you to review the attached position (more information can be found at fecca.org.au) and help encourage social inclusion.

I hope you can take the time to review FECCA’s position on the passing of a Multicultural Act that supports cultural and linguistic diversity in Australia.
