Homelessness and Poverty
This petition had 399 supporters
Homelessness and poverty is an ever-growing issue that has needed to be acted upon and addressed for decades. However, due to the denial of its increase, it is now an issue that has progressed and expanded to have an impact on not only adults, but our country's children too.
Statistics show that the number of rough sleepers in London had risen by 75% to 6437 in 2012-13 and that by 2020, 80,000 families will be homeless. In addition, in 2013 alone 112,070 people in England approached their council as homeless which was a 26% increase in 4 years. However, there are only 40,000 hostel beds available across England. This is particularly impacting families with younger children or the homeless youth, as many homeless shelters do not accommodate children and teenagers and the environment of these hostels can not always provide safety to these young people. Therefore we need to take action on this issue in order to ensure those experiencing this problem are receiving their basic needs and rights.
As a result of this, we ask that you would support us by signing this petition to aid us with our campaign as well as helping us in making our parliament acknowledge homelessness and poverty and push them further to creating an appropriate resolution to this issue.
