Help re-open Pilates Studios ASAP in Victoria

Pilates Studios need to open by the Third Step of the Victorian Governments Roadmap. Currently, the roadmap is ambiguous regarding Pilates Studios reopening. Last Step (Fourth Step) is too late.

A large majority of Pilates Studio Practices already correlate to Third Step guidelines stipulated by the Victorian Government. As an industry, Pilates Studios are practising COVIDsafe principles for business such as:

  • ensuring physical distancing (1.5 metres).
  • wearing a mask or face covering to teach.
  • practicing good hygiene and stringent cleaning protocols.
  • applying density quotients.
  • reducing staff levels.

Therefore, we urge the reopening of Pilates Studios in the Third Step, currently scheduled for 26 October.

As an Allied Health profession, we would like to draw your attention to:
- the distinction between Pilates studios which practice 1:1 and up to 1:4 classes, rather than large reformer studios or large group classes.
- the small group size of specialised Pilates studios.
- the highly qualified, career practitioners that work and run these specialised Pilates studios.
- the high degree of supervision in these specialised studios.
- the no sharing of equipment between clients.
- cleaning and sanitising between classes.
- clients attend studios by booking/appointment (no drop ins).
- clients have ongoing programs for progression and management of chronic movement and health conditions (not purely fitness-based focus, but rehabilitative and preventative)

The mental and physical benefits of practising the Pilates Method are essential for the wellbeing of our community. Clients are ready to get into the studios and so are we.
