Minister Alannah MacTiernan: Pledge to maintain the R4R funding in Katanning
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
Dear Minister MacTiernan,
The Katanning community is deeply concerned about reports that the Royalties for Regions funding committed to the Katanning Heritage Centre Project may be withdrawn.
The funding that was committed through the business case "Katanning Supertown Heritage Centre Project: Welcome Precinct & the Piesse Lake Development" (2014-15) identified key projects and strategies that will aid with economic development, particularly through tourist attraction and job creation, and further build the goal of population attraction and retention to the community and region.
Many projects, and the leveraged funding required to complete them, rely on the commitment from State Government through the Royalties for Regions program to ensure their success.
The Heritage Centre Precinct project will see jobs created both through the construction phase, but also as a result of increased tourism, private investment, and people choosing Katanning as their home as a result of the improved amenities and services, housing and employment opportunities.
The Katanning community encourages you to work with the Shire of Katanning to maintain the commitment of funding to ensure that the developments at the Welcome Precinct and Piesse Lake (including Tourism Infrastructure, All Ages Playground, Residential Land Development, and Botanic Garden and Recreation Areas) are delivered.
In 2013-2014, a number of community workshops were run by John Stanley (http://www.johnstanley.com.au/) to identify the biggest challenges, and most important needs in our community, as viewed by our community. Many of these have been addressed, such as Health Services upgrades, and the Katanning Childhood Hub, however, there are still a number of community-identified priorities that are covered by the Katanning Heritage Centre Project that have yet to be realised.
Katanning is 'The Heart of the Great Southern' and serves a much larger community than just those who live within its boundaries. With the amenities and high standard facilities to be delivered through this project, Katanning, and the regional communities that surround it, will be able to provide a quality of life that is comparable to metro areas.
If we create a community that is highly attractive, and has the facilities young families need, it will motivate people to make Katanning their home for the long-term.
This project is well-thought-out, and linked to long-term state-scale projects and initiatives, and will be supported and maintained by our community for the long-term.
We hope that you will review the budget favourably for Katanning and this project, and continue to work with the local government and the community to achieve great things!
