Create programs exposing students to practical asset generating opportunities in schools
Why this petition matters
A major issue faced by students in Jamaica, is a financial one which often leads to emotional strains. In our primary and lower high school curriculums enough is not being done to educate our students about the importance of understanding finances, or making and managing money in order to become financially stable now and for the future.
Economics is a business subject taught in all schools. However, it mainly represents the study of how we utilize scarce recourses to achieve goals, which is not a very practical way of helping us manage money in the real world. In any event students are not exposed to economics until during their senior years in high school.
Not to bash our education system but I believe more should be done. This petition was created to provide more financial guidance in addition to what the subject has to offer, but in a more practical and tactical way for our students. A program as such would educate a child about: capital securities by giving them the tools required to open a bank account and also how to start an investment portfolio.
