Minifest Mistake Not Rectified

The position of director for Minifest 2018 was given to Josephine Jarvis, a student in their final year who has never directed before, when the student asked the Artistic Director how long they had to make a decision for personal reasons, they were told “It would be nice to know within the next couple days at least!” and so the student agreed to keep the Committee updated. Less than two hours later, with no warning, the AD contacted the student retracting the offer - a direct contradiction of her previous statement. The student responded right away expressing that this decision was unfair and unprofessional, this email went ignored. The AD stated in her email retracting the position “the committee has had to make this tough decision” implying that all members were in on that decision and yet a member of the Committee seemed genuinely taken off guard as the students unhappy response when they excitedly approached the student that evening about whether she had got “the email”. Later that evening the Committee saw fit to announce a list of directors which the student was not on before first addressing their mistake. After a lengthy exchange with the Faculty Coordinator and a member ASU, the Committee did apologize for their mistake, however, are continuing to refuse to rectify it.

The position is rightfully Josephine’s, but as the Committee and Faculty Coordinator are doing nothing to resolve the situation it is being brought forth to the student body and to the ASU. Text evidence of any exchange will be freely given to any student who desires to see it for themselves before making their own decision.

Any support given is greatly appreciated, this issue is of great importance to the student in question. Thank you.
