On Friday, March 3, 2017 in La Tarde, Costa Rica an ocelot was captured from the wild and taken to a millionaire's private collection. The 2-year-old female ocelot was rescued as a cub from the side of the road after her mother was hit in 2015. The family that rescued her lives very close to where she was found in the jungle, boarding Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica. The cub was supported for the first few months of her life by the family and had the option to come and go as she pleased from the home in to the forest. Once the cat was clearly hunting and living on her own, the family no longer fed her and she lived as a wild cat. The ocelot continued to be friendly with people due to her situation as a cub and occasionally visited the home, which attracted the attention of the millionaire's private animal collector. This woman decided she wanted the cat for the collection, where they have more wild cats living in cages and other exotic animals, including the endangered baird's tapir. So the woman claimed that the ocelot, living in its natural habitat, needed to be "rescued" to live in a cage, be fed chicken, and boost the woman's ego. She entered the farm of the family, put a collar on the cat (which it had never had before) and stole it from the jungle. She claimed that she had the proper authorization for this under the vail of "rescue" but never produced any documents with the necessary signatures for this claim. Please sign the petition to uncover this scandal and release the Ocelot back to the wild.
