This petition is to formally inform you that as a group, we the doctors employed by the Public Health Sector are very dissatisfied with the compensation plan we are being met with for our work. We have to work in horrendous circumstances, very little resources and under difficult conditions. We work with threats to our lives in certain demographics and under daily risks. We have doctors working in the interior where the cost of living is much higher than the coastal regions despite living in government quarters. Doctors would have to travel great distances to search for patients to get to them the much-needed medical assistance. There are many times we work beyond the call of duty to get our work done.
We would like to highlight that our current housing allowance is $600GYD and that we have not been paid risk allowances despite working in a risky environment where we are exposed to contaminants, patient's bodily fluids, contagious patients and sharp objects.
Try to imagine a doctor working 24hrs in a surgical, obstetric pediatric or cardiology department at a rate of $112GYD per hour to save your life. Now is the time for this be addressed as we have been running with it for decades now.
Please find below a list of allowances we wish to have revised and considered for approval:
1. Housing allowance/ Miscellaneous GUY $40000 monthly (non-taxable)
2. Risk allowance GUY $40000 monthly (non-taxable)
3. On call allowance GUY $9000 per call (non-taxable)
Thank you in advance for your revision and discussion with the other relevant authorities.
