Create the Promised Footpath on Kiln Barn Road, Ditton

Following the Orchard Gate housing development, this petition seeks to hold Millwood Designer Homes to account and reinforce the necessity to create the footpath adjacent to Kiln Barn Road that they promised.

Kiln Barn Road, like many country lanes across the county, has no pavement and features sharp, blind bends, exacerbated by overgrown verges, bushes and trees. Cars also travel at speed along this lane (a 60mph limit). It is for this very reason that during the planning consultation for the new housing estate, strong concerns were raised that it would be incredibly dangerous for the new Orchard Gate estate residents to walk to Ditton village along Kiln Barn Road. As a result, Millwood Designer Homes modified their proposal to “now incorporate a new informal footpath adjacent to Kiln Barn Road” (Page 14 Section 5.6 of the Planning Statement submitted to Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council). This footpath would connect the new Orchard Gate housing estate to Ragstone Court, establishing a safe pedestrian route to the centre of Ditton and local facilities on offer, including two pre-schools, an infant school, a primary school, St Peter’s Church, Ditton Community Centre, recreational grounds, playgrounds and shops. Accordingly, Millwood Designer Homes drew up plans for the footpath route, with artist’s impressions of what the footpath would look like. This new footpath was featured in sales promotion material, and helped convince many families to purchase the new properties on offer, with the knowledge that a safe pedestrian route to the village was imminent.

Millwood Designer Homes have now reneged on their promise to build the footpath, leaving the local community in danger. We believe that Millwood Designer Homes have a moral obligation to build the promised footpath along Kiln Barn Road, which will present a vast improvement for all Ditton residents. Considering that more than half (59%) of fatal accidents in Britain occur on country roads, this petition is a logical call for the promised footpath to be built, making the community of Ditton safer and better connected.

This footpath is important for the whole community, as it will allow anyone to access a safe route between Orchard Gate and Ditton village, whether they are walking (dog walkers), jogging or cycling.

Please sign this petition if you agree that the promised footpath should be provided to make the Ditton community safer and better connected.
