Why this petition matters

Started by saylor puckett

School has always felt like a safe place to me at least, there was always a few things I disagreed with but I never felt unsafe. This year with all of the new safety rules  school feels unsafe to me and I know other students feel the same way. Whenever anyone at our school has ever had a problem there is at least one teacher for everyone to go to and be able to talk things through with and having a bond like that with teachers makes school feel safer. With all of the new rules in the school being able to get out of class or talk to a teacher during bulldog business is almost impossible you have to have a pass to be in the hallway of your own school and if some how you manage to get to a teachers class you don't even have an open door to walk into every door is locked. not to mention every teacher and administrator scaring the children into thinking we are going to have a school shooting makes walking in the hallway feel unsafe because of the fear that some one in the hallway may have a gun and every door around you is locked and there is no where to go. I understand all of the new rules are for our safety but new rules could be put in place to protect us and make us feel safe in school. I am personally terrified of a school shooting because school isn't about learning anymore all the teachers and staff are focused on is enforcing the new rules and being very disrespectful about it. I am scared that some one will shoot up our school and I wont be able to text my mom and tell her I love her because I am not even able to have my phone. I spend my day not even focusing in class all I can think about is which person in my class would be the most likely to bring a gun to school and I feel separated from my peers because I feel like any of them could bring a gun to school and the teacher are the reason I am so fearful of everyone. Not only do students have to be worried about school shooters, grades, and extra curricular activities students also have to worry about finding an outfit that they can wear to school that will keep them at a comfortable body temperature and that they wont get in trouble for, and if you do choose you comfort over the unnecessary dress code you are sent to the office and given basketball shorts which makes the dress code even more sexist because even though the shorts are gender neutral they are the type of clothes that guys typically wear and if a girl wears them they are judged by their peers. Most of the rules in the dress code only apply to the female population at the school and now to make it worse we are given masculine clothes if we are out of dress code.  All of these rules are making the students hate going to school and all of these new rules will decrease the amount  of students showing up to school each day, and will cause the students to rebel more because the student body doesn't want to feel disrespected and untrusted by the staff.
