Mandate Masks to Protect Our Unvaccinated Kids
We, the parents of Miller Place School District, are advocating for mandatory masking of those unvaccinated against the COVID-19 during the 2021-2022 school year.
This petition is in favor of masks for unvaccinated school-aged children in grades K-12 in Miller Place School District. We are calling on our Superintendent, School Board, and district administrators to mandate masks for unvaccinated students and staff during the 2021-2022 to fight community spread and help keep students safe from highly contagious variants that have sent COVID numbers spiking over the last month
Masking has been proven to be effective time and time again in close, indoor environments. As case numbers continue to rise at an exponential rate it would be remiss on the district’s part not to take that shifting paradigm into consideration.
Since students under twelve do not have the opportunity to be fully vaccinated, the risk of our youngest children spreading the virus to each other remains. The rise of the more contagious Delta Variant amplifies this possibility considerably since students were last in classes together. There is ample public health justification to wear masks in school. It is clear that masks prevent spread of disease.
We, the community, should do everything we can to prevent community spread of COVID.
It is time we ensure all children are safe from communicable diseases like COVID and do our part to ensure the safety of all in our schools.
