Miller Place School District Needs a Remote Learning Option

Miller Place School District Needs a Remote Learning Option
Why this petition matters

The Miller Place School District's reopening plan has no remote learning option.
This is a necessary option for many parents to keep their families safe. No parent should be forced to send their child to school during a pandemic. Home-schooling is not a reasonable option for most parents. Parents have to work, and many are not qualified to meet the needs of the students. My children are in high school, which means that their courses are specialized. They need teachers who specialize in each area to instruct them.
Children should not be required to put themselves at risk of serious illness or death just to get that instruction. They shouldn’t have to bear the burden of knowing that they could bring the virus home to their vulnerable family members, possibly causing their deaths. The Miller Place School District's reopening plan has no provision for students with vulnerable family members. That needs to change.
Furthermore, there is no reason not to offer the option of remote learning:
1) Fewer students in each building will make it safer for those in attendance, including students, teachers and staff.
2) There would be no extra work involved for teachers since they will be using Google Classroom to teach remotely three days per week already.
3) There is no added cost or burden at all to the school district.
Be Miller Place Kind. Please sign this petition to ask the Board of Education to make these necessary changes to the school reopening plan. Thank you.
