Mileage and fuel rates and allowances

Mileage and fuel rates and allowances
Why this petition matters
Approved mileage rates for business use of 45p for cars and vans, 24p for motor cycles, 20p for bikes for the first 10, 000 miles with a reduction after reaching this limit has been in force since tax year 2011 - 2012.
With the growth of costs for maintenance, services and fuel over the last ten years the allowance is far less than the cost for using own transport for business purposes with the employee subsiding the costs and being increasingly out of pocket. Employees are increasingly becoming more in a situation where they are having to choose between putting fuel in the car for work or food and lights / heating on for the family.
Reviewing the allowance in line with the cost of living, servicing, maintenance and fuel costs will enable employees and those self employed to continue to serve the communities with the care, dedication and much needed services that keep communities functioning. These include professions such as: carers, midwifes, social workers, support workers, youth workers, lorry drivers, delivery drivers, nurses, tree surgeons, gardeners, window cleaners etc.
