Mike Walker started this petition to Phil Davies (Leader of Wirral Borough Council)

Storeton and Barnston are both villages with a rural character that lie within the heart of Wirrals greenbelt. Wirral Borough Council have been instructed by the Minster of Housing to produce a local plan and find sites suitable for building 12000 new homes over the next 15 years. Wirral Borough Council have argued that there are not enough brownfield sites to build new housing and that parts of the greenbelt will have to be released. The local plan being put forward by the council proposes to release sites from the greenbelt on the fringes of Heswall and Higher Bebington. As a result of this Barnston and Storeton villages will be lost, being merged into Heswall and Bebington respectively. This goes against 3 of the 5 purposes of the Greenbelt which has been set out in national policy.

  1. to check the unrestricted sprawl of large built-up areas
  2. to prevent neighboring towns merging into one another
  3. to preserve the setting and special character of historic towns

Please sign this petition if you are in agreement that the plans to release these areas should not go ahead on the basis that these historic villages will be lost forever and the national policy for the purposes of the Greenbelt is being undermined.
