Stop Cattle Damage to Shell Ridge Open Space Trails

Last winter, the City of Walnut Creek permitted a new cattle rancher to graze cattle in Shell Ridge Open Space 3-4 months earlier than normal, exposing too many cattle to fire roads and single track trails for the entire winter and spring resulting in the worst trail damage I've seen in the 23 years I've lived in Walnut Creek.
During the winter due to the quagmire of mud, cattle poo and resulting craters, most of the trails and many fire roads were impassable to hiking, running or riding. During the spring and even now, many of the single track trails historically enjoyed year round are still hazardous to navigate!
To minimize trail damage this winter, I propose simply that the City of W.C. "prevent cattle grazing in Shell Ridge Open Space until mid-spring (when the ground and trails can handle heavy cattle/hooves & number of cattle permitted to graze).”
There are, of course, many other steps that can be taken to protect our trails but this is a good start.
