Make World History and World Geography both required courses for Texas Schools again

Back in the 1990s, Texas broke ground by becoming the first state that required 4 social studies to graduate. The recent decision in 2014 to bring that requirement down to 3 is a big step back. Students in Texas public schools now choose between either, world geography or world history.
It is extremely detrimental if our students are not learning about the world around them. As we are becoming an increasingly global society, it is paramount to understand the history of the world and the structure of the world in which we live. Texas lawmakers supported this decision by stating that it gave schools more flexibility. But sacrificing valuable education for the sake of flexibility is not strong enough justification. We should bring back both world geography and world history as required courses to enhance the education of our students and prepare them for the global society in which we live.
