Reinstate Board of Barbers and Hairdressers-Practical Examination

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

Earlier this month every licensed Cosmetologist in Alaska received a letter in their email stating that at a Board of Barbers and Hairdressers meeting February 11-12 that the Proctored Practical (Hands on) examination would be cancelled statewide as of March 1st.
Currently the notes from this meeting are unavailable on the state website so we are not even sure if this was done in due-process, who made this decision on behalf of the licensees and the public or why this decision was made without public comment or opinion.
Most importantly this is a public health and safety issue!
Even the licensed INSTRUCTORS would not have to prove their skill set to anyone, which will deregulate the entire industry.
Currently a student has to show an array of services they can do including the use of scissors, tweezers, razerblades, toxic chemicals, hot waxes and show how to properly sanitize these implements and keep our clients safe. This new ruling would eliminate this completely.

We realize as cosmetologists the way things have been going is not perfect but we need this test reinstated in the mean time while we later perfect the guidelines as a whole.

Please sign this petition.

1) This is to DEMAND this test be changed back to the way it has been immediately so that even one month of students (as of March 1, 2020) will not be left without testing.

2) The state of Alaska call an emergency Board of Barbers and Hairdressers meeting to be located in Anchorage and made to licensees and the public so our voices can be heard.

3) Release the minute notes and any recordings onto the state website immediately so the public can see who is making these unsafe decisions for us.

This is a collaborate effort by a group of about 100 concerned Barbers, Hairdressers, Esthetician’s and Instructors.
Thank you all for working so great together.
