We the undersigned are all users of our roads. We are cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians. We demand our roads to be safe and accessible to all users, including cyclists, who are deemed vehicles under New York Traffic Statute 1231. We present this petition to our state and local government elected leaders and their representative agencies for immediate consideration. To address these concerns we ask the expeditious consideration and enactment of the following measures.

1. To our local representatives in the State Legislature, we request you overcome the inertia in passing the “Three Foot Rule” requiring motorists to give cyclists a three-foot passing margin, as is law now in over two dozen states.

2. To Mike Hein, Ulster County Executive, we thank you for measures already taken and request that you accelerate the work to construct the bike lane on Route 299 from Butterville Road to Route 44/55.

3. To our DOT (Department of Transportation), please cooperate with traffic calming measures requested by the biking community, including reducing speed limits and providing clear, cautionary signage.

This petition will be delivered to:
  • Mike Hein, Ulster County Executive,
  • Department of transportation
  • Our Local Representatives in the State Legislature,
