Water shutoffs in the Detroit area are very concerning and must be talked about. The City of Detroit experiences one of the highest percentages of water shutoffs. These shutoffs occur for various reasons but plain and simple people are paying more than they can afford on water bills. Many people in the Detroit area pay about 10% of their monthly income on their water bill.

Not to mention the obvious struggles of living with no running water it endangers more people than many realize. Having a surplus of people with no running water puts public health at risk. This is where the water fountains come into play. These will be in a public area for the use of anyone who pleases. Knowing there is a spot where water is guaranteed would do a lot for a family.

Getting public water fountains back is not the end goal. It is the start to what we hope to be systemic change. This will provide an opportunity for those who are in dire need of water to have access. However, the end goal is to end water shutoffs as it puts many people at risk and is not safe.
