There are more slaves today than ever before. There are over 20.9 million slaves around the world. Human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery that exists throughout the USA and globally.

Human traffickers use violence, threats, lies and debt bondage and other forms of coercion to compel adults and children to engage in commercial sex acts against their will. It splits people from their family, removes their right to freedom and dignity and denies them control over their own body. They become a commodity rather than a human being.

It is unjust in a world where slavery is abolished, there are more slaves than ever before. This is an injustice that cannot be ignored because the victims have no voice. It is our responsibiity to use our voice to stand up for the invisible.

To push forward the fight to eliminate human trafficking, I'm seeking support for the Sex Trafficking Demand Reduction Act. This bill seeks to amend the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, relating to the efforts of foreign countries to reduce the demand for commercial sex, under the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.

It is proven that where prostitution is legal, human trafficking is higher. Three quarters of registered victims were trafficked for sexual exploitation. As prostitution is facilitating human traffickng, both prostitution and human trafficking must be addressed simultaneously in order for progress against this injustice to be made.

The Sex Trafficking Demand Reduction Act is bringing the issue of human trafficking back to the political agenda. It recognises the need for international governments to all commit to the minimum standard of prohibiting prostitution in order to reduce human trafficking.

Please sign this petiton pushing forward the Sex Trafficking Demand Reduction Act and use your voice to stand up for the invisible victims.
