On 11/15/1995 my family life was changed forever. My Brother Kim age 19 was being chased on an Ohio highway when he discharged a handgun striking and killing the passenger of the car that was chasing him. My brother always felt that he should pay for his actions because someone's life was taken. However, we never dreamed that it would have cost him his life. I was only 17 years old when my brother was arrested. On 11/15/1995 he was sentenced to 25 years to life. Before this incident he had never been in trouble with the law, he did not have a police record. My mom and dad cleaned out their savings and hire a lawyer that told my mom if my brother did not go with a jury trial the Judge whom he lives in the same community with, would ensure that my brother was given a fair sentence. On the day of the sentence, my family didn't make it, because my parent had been advised that they didn't need to be there. My parents trusted the lawyer, they didn't know that they shouldn't. The Newspaper at the time depicted my brother as a criminal that did not have any family support. This was painful to read because that was not the truth. My parents are immigrants to this country, they worked and paid their taxes, they do not know how the criminal justice system works. Each time my brother goes up for parole he is denied. He has no previous record, but yet he still behind bars 25 years later. Because on the advice of his lawyer he went with a judge trial and was given 25 years to life. Please help my brother to gain his freedom.
