Midwives rights to practice in NC

Midwives rights to practice in NC
Why this petition matters
Currently in North Carolina there is only one birthing center located in Statesville, NC though the demand for birthing centers as an alternative to traditional hospital birth is growing rapidly as is the population of women who need maternity care and the laws are restricting the growth of this field for midwives as well as for women who desire a less invasive and more natural birthing experience. There was recently a bill presented “House bill 149 - the SAVE act” which would have given some freedom to midwives to practice and have been a step in the right direction. We hope to give women more options for their maternity & delivery care and give midwives of NC more rights as providers. 28 states currently give midwives complete independence to practice while the remaining other states require just a collaborative agreement for midwives to practice and yet NC is among the 3 states in this country with the most restrictions and no rights for midwives to practice without complete supervision of an OB-GYN this means that more certified midwives are leaving our state to work elsewhere and not serving our communities who really need the care. This can change by our representatives voting yes to the SAVE act and also taking a look at our laws, we need to be pushing this matter to our senators & governor and let them know how important it is to us.
Please consider signing this petition to show the number of women & families that care about this matter.
