The last thing Dalkeith needs is a refuge for drug users and alcoholics in the absolute centre of the town. This is a repeat of the dreaded "Lodge" on the site of the Old police station which had to be shut down due to the the daily calls on the emergency services it generated. There are hundreds of families living in the town centre whos quality of life and safety will be deeply affected by this development if it goes ahead. Dalkeith already has large antisocial behaviour problems in the centre, this will only serve to add fuel to the fire and accelerate the urban decay we all live with on a daily basis. The building is utterly decrepit and unfit for purpose, I cannot think of a worse place to put vulnerable families addicts and alcoholics than in an area surrounded by pubs where drugs and alcohol are readily available. This is not a human solution, it is purely fiscal and has no regard for the people living around the area or the people they want to house in a disused office block that was earmarked for demolition.
