Julie Read started this petition to Midlothian Council

In 2013 we fought a strong campaign to save Newtongrange Library from closure, due to Council cuts. Midlothian Council chamber saw the administration vote to keep our facilities open and in council control.

Under recent proposals it's clear our library is under threat again, Midlothian Council is going against its word if they close it.

As library users we are trying to make a positive difference through our actions for the benefit of the whole of Newtongrange Community - from babies and new mums, through primary aged children and to the elderly and isolated.

Our goal is to make our community a better place for all people in that books, education and availability of the internet should be enjoyed by everyone. Many people still need these facilities to be available within the community and it is a place where all ages can meet, learn and interact on a non-discriminatory basis in the heart of the village.

To do so, we must initially canvass support from businesses and individuals within Newtongrange; seek formal support from our elected representatives, MPs and MSPs; and encourage participation by the current library users to retain our library.

Please support us now, please share this petition far and wide - WE NEED YOUR HELP.
