This is nothing but self-serving political mischief on the part of the concerned authorities. In creating a false opposition between the concern for black lives and the already assured support for policemen and women, this in itself constitutes an act of racism.

The Middletown Police department and the elected officials of this municipality have become too involved in national politics. We have always supported the police. Please stop creating an atmosphere of us against them in Middletown.

The Blue Lives Matter “movement” is a defensive response to a real and powerful movement for Black lives, and Middletown will remain an inequitable, segregated, white-led space until it’s institutions fully support and advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement.

I value our police and they do a tremendous job! However, when this blue line went up, it was in response to Colin Kaepernick's football activism. Middletown South had a large football event broadcast on ESPN which honored the police. I remember that my neighborhood, Brasch Farms also had a blue line painted down the middle of Brasch in advance of the game. I attended that game because my daughter plays in the band. I remember feeling very uncomfortable when I realized how the few students of color must feel. In fact the ACLU issued a letter to the district in response to that event. I thought the line was in water paint, but years later, it is still there. Now it is a reminder of that counter-sentiment to Kaepernick's activism. As a resident, I should not be subjected to that offense on a daily basis. Please remove the blue line. Our road, is a road for all and should not have a permanent reminder of this sentiment rooted in a reaction to BLM. We are a town of both political parties and our roads should just be roads for all people.

I’m signing because respect is earned not given due to having a badge and gun. Police officers should not be held above the law, period.
